SWEET + SAVORY - Sweet Cravings in Normal Heights

Yesterday we decided to go have Afternoon Tea. After weighing our options, we landed on trying out Dark Horse Coffee on Adams Avenue in San Diego's Normal Heights Neighborhood. Manny used to live in this area years ago and we used to take strolls along Adams all the time. Since then, a lot of new shops have popped up and after having tea and donuts, we took a look at some of them.

DAYTRIPPING - Potato Chip

Last sunday we went for a hike. Again. (Thats 2 hikes in 2 weekends!! So unlike us. ). This time we decided to go check out the Potato Chip Rock at the summit of Mt Woodson in San Diego's Poway neighborhood. The trail is about 7 miles roundtrip and starts off at Lake Poway. It is quiet tough (we had to take plenty of breaks) and definitely no fun on a hot day. We started at 7am and the whole trips (incl taking tons of pics of the Rock) took us about 5 hours.

DAYTRIPPING - Torrey Pines State Preserve

Yesterday we actually did some hiking. I've been wanting to get out there for a while, and my new co-workers hiking enthusiasm finally rub off and made me get out of bed early on a day-off and spend some time in the fresh air, actually doing some physical activity. And what can I say? We definitely want more!

The trip took us to Torrey Pines State Preserve, which is right by the ocean and offers gorgeous views. We hiked the Razor Point Trail and then continued onto the Beach Trail, down to the Beach and  back to the Visitor Center where we had parked. A fun time. And the total hike took us less then 2 hours (with lots of photo stops obviously).

South Park Exploration

Saturday my friend Anna and I took a trip to South Park. A San Diego neighborhood close to Downtown that is known for its unique boutiques and artsy feel.

Walking along Fern street for a couple of blocks between Kalmia and Grape, one will find lots of little cafe's, vintage stores and yes, even Food Trucks. There is 1 7Eleven and a Sombreros, other than that, every store seems to be a small, unique business, which makes the Neighborhood a perfect spot for Treasure Hunting (check out Bad Madge, Junc Life, Progress, Graffiti Beach and a thrift store with apparently no name on the corner of 30th & Ivy) and Guilty Pleasure Pleasing (check out Eclipse Chocolate and Daily Scoop). For Dinner, visit The Station and if you feel like listening to some live music, there's the Whistle Stop. And don't forget to check out the beautiful Craftman Homes along the way.

At the end of your trip, head south on Fern and then east on Date and enjoy this awesome view of Downtown San Diego on the other side of Balboa Park.

Whale Watching

One of my Christmas presents this year from Manny was tickets for a Whale Watching Tour (that's what happens when you tell your husband you don't want material things, but rather go places). We had a great time though!
